to look up at the stars,
and put one's own existence
in perspective to the
context of the universe
to lose count of the stars after
a dozen
a score
a thousand
a million
each adopting the role of the sun,
nurturing and raising its own family
of planets and earths
that may now or someday bear life.
I am humbled, elated, electrified
with the revelation that
while nothing I do will change the universe,
nothing I do will hurt her either.
My words are irrelevant,
but I write anyway.
My life is irrelevant,
but I live anyway.
My purposelessness gives me purpose.
