is absolute catharsis –
the sand cool enough to
curl my toes
with intrinsic warmth
that keeps me from shivering.
As I move towards the water,
the air makes my hair
dance wildly like flames
if fire could be frozen.
The tide kisses the souls of my feet
raising the hair on my calves
to stand at attention
like thousands of devoted soldiers
who have yet to see the Hell of war.
The wind and
the water and
the sand all
blend together in
perfect three part harmony –
a tune always on my lips
but forever just out of grasp.
